Leonardus Fibonacci, born 1175 in Pisa, had a great influence on the development of Mathematics. The Fibonacci sequence is a series of numbers in which each term is the sum of the preceding two terms; 1+1 = 2;
2 + 1 = 3; 3 + 2 = 5; 5 + 3 = 8; 8 + 5 = 13 and so on.
Many living things grow according to these rules - eg. snails and the horns of some rams grow as a Fibonacci spiral.
