Small group ministry

The healing ministry of small groups is highly valued. Our normal working day is based around small groups and we find this way of working helps many people experience and learn about God’s healing love.

Here are some of the ways that healing happens:

We use Bible passages to encourage people to notice which verses touch them, which ones are “living” and healing for them in that moment. Questions are invited which wrestle with how to put Gospel truths into practice. We offer people the possibility to “do” their own theology, to find their own healing and to integrate conceptual truths into the felt experience of faith.

In the midst of this we are often also being “family” for those people whose early life has left many emotional wounds. People are helped to participate, to feel at home and to experience that their contributions are valued.

Intercessory prayer is woven into the small group ministry integrating the personal search for wholeness and healing with concern for the well-being and healing of others.

What happens in a group?
We open with devotions, sometimes led by the Chaplain or more often by volunteers. There is then reflection together around one or two Bible passages, encouraging a sharing of our responses and valuing all contributions.

Each group is composed of different people and therefore each has a different character. In addition the groups have different histories and over time have developed a variety of approaches. See OPENING TIMES

Each group always has an intercessory prayer time, usually following the Bible Reflection. At any one time we pray for around 200 people daily. People are prayed for over an eight-week period which can be renewed.
See Intercessory Prayer Ministry

Most groups take a break in the middle of the session and meet for a healing blether over tea and coffee.

After the break people may return to chapel to continue to help with the INTERCESSORY PRAYER MINISTRY

Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving always forms part of the prayers at the end of the session. We try to include reports that we have received from people who have been prayed for in the past. Confidentiality is respected at all times - we use only first names.

We hope this information is helpful. If you are visiting us please do ask our team leaders or receptionists for more information. If you have or are developing a healing ministry in your own church or group please feel free to use and adapt our model if it is useful.

You may find our leaflet: “HEALING TIMES AND SPACES” also helpful for your own or church use.
